Set up your profile

Your profile is the foundation of everything CareerDoc does. The AI uses it to match your skills against job requirements, tailor your CV, and fill out application forms.

  • 1 Go to Profile in the sidebar.
  • 2 Click Upload CV and choose your existing CV (PDF or Word). The AI will automatically extract your name, experience, education, and skills.
  • 3 Review what was extracted and fill in any gaps — especially your current role, years of experience, and salary expectation.
  • 4 Add your LinkedIn, GitHub, or portfolio URL if relevant.
  • 5 Click Save changes. You only need to do this once.

💡The more complete your profile, the better the fit scores and generated documents will be. Include a professional summary — it helps the AI write stronger cover letters.
2

Add your first application

There are two ways to add a job application — via the Chrome extension (recommended) or manually from the dashboard.

Extension Recommended
While browsing a job listing, click the CareerDoc extension icon. It reads the full post and adds it with one click — including the job description for AI analysis.
Dashboard Manual
Click + Add application on the dashboard. Then paste the job description into the Match + Docs tab for AI analysis.

Dashboard — click "+ Add application" to open the job modal
3

Analyze the job & check your fit

Open any application from the dashboard and go to the Match + Docs tab. Paste the full job description and click Analyze.

CareerDoc extracts the requirements and compares them against your profile. You'll get two scores:

Profile fit
78%
CV fit
61%

A gap between the two means your CV isn't highlighting relevant experience that is in your profile. Generating a tailored CV will close that gap.

💡Aim for a profile fit above 70% before applying. Below that, consider whether the role is a realistic target — or update your profile if you have matching experience not yet captured.
4

Generate a tailored CV & cover letter

After analyzing the job, click Generate CV + Cover Letter. CareerDoc rewrites your CV to emphasize the skills most relevant to this specific role and writes a cover letter that speaks directly to the job requirements.

  • 1 Generation takes 15–30 seconds. A spinner shows while it processes.
  • 2 When done, download buttons appear for your CV PDF and cover letter PDF.
  • 3 Both files are saved to Documents in the sidebar for easy access later.

Match + Docs tab — paste job description, analyze, then generate
💡Each time you apply to a different role, generate a fresh set of documents. The AI tailors them to each specific job description — never send the same CV twice.
5

Track your pipeline

The dashboard shows all your applications in one place, with status badges and filters for each stage: Saved, Applied, Interviewing, Offered, Rejected, Withdrawn.

  • Update a status by opening the application and changing the Status field in the Details tab.
  • Log correspondence — email threads, call notes — using the Timeline section on the job page.
  • The stats row (Total / Applied / Interviewing / Offers) at the top of the dashboard updates automatically.
6

Use the AI assistant

Every application has an Ask AI tab where you can chat with an AI that has full context of the job description and your profile.

Things you can ask:

  • "What should I highlight in my cover letter for this role?"
  • "What interview questions should I prepare for?"
  • "What salary should I negotiate given this role and my experience?"
  • "What skills am I missing that I should mention I'm actively learning?"

There's also a floating chat button on every page for quick questions not tied to a specific job.

7

The Chrome extension is the fastest way to use CareerDoc. It runs directly on any job listing page and gives you instant access to all features without switching tabs.
